Two rivers meet in Manville and the ground remembers every flood. Tree service in Manville, NJ means checking the root collar before the crown — trees that have stood in water go soft at the base long before they look it.

A tree company working flood ground needs to be insured properly, not just cheap. Wayne’s carries general liability and workers' compensation on every job, is registered with the NJ Board of Tree Experts as NJTC No. 806860, and employs Peter Ahlert under operator license LTCO No. 565. Dylan Ahlert owns it.
Manville is flood ground. Two rivers meet here, and trees that have stood in floodwater repeatedly go soft at the base. That is why we look at the root collar before we quote anything — water-damaged roots fail long before the crown shows it. If a tree is still sound we will tell you so rather than sell you a removal.

Tree Removal
Storm-damaged trees are the ones that catch people out. A cracked union or a torn limb looks survivable from the ground, but the wound lets decay in and the tree fails in the next hard wind. We look at the union, not just the canopy.
We prune to ANSI A300 — no topping, no stripping the inner growth. Topping a tree does not make it safer; it forces weak, fast regrowth that is more likely to fail in five years than what you started with.
The grindings do not have to leave. Mixed with soil they backfill the hole and settle in over a season, or we haul the lot away and leave you clean ground — whichever suits what you are doing next.
We check the stock before it goes in. Nursery trees that have sat too long in the pot come with circling roots that will strangle the trunk years later, and that is not something you can fix after planting.
A trunk across the driveway is not just inconvenient — it can put you on the wrong side of an ambulance route. We clear access first and deal with the rest of the tree afterwards.
Manville Does Not Require a Tree Permit on Private Property
We checked this one carefully, because plenty of websites claim otherwise. Manville has no tree removal permit for private property. Its 2012 Shade Tree Commission ordinance gives the Commission control over trees in streets, parks and public places — not over the tree in your yard. There is no diameter threshold, no application, and no fee anywhere in the Borough’s ordinances.
Two location-specific limits do still apply. Inside a recorded conservation or flood plain easement, the Land Development Ordinance prohibits removing trees and ground cover except for dead or diseased trees and limited thinning. And Manville adopted a stream corridor ordinance in May 2024: inside a designated riparian zone — which takes in the 100-year floodplain wherever that has been mapped — the ground must stay in its natural state, with no clearing or cutting of trees and brush. Removing dead vegetation and fallen trees, pruning for imminent public safety, and taking out invasive species are allowed; felling a standing live tree is not, without going through NJDEP. Given how much of Manville sits on flood ground, both are worth checking before work starts — which we do as part of the quote.
No Borough permit is required to remove a tree on private property
No diameter threshold or fee in the Borough Code — Shade Tree Commission regulations are filed with the Clerk, and we check those too
Street and park trees are the Shade Tree Commission’s — not along state highways or county roads and parks
Inside a recorded conservation or flood plain easement, removing trees and ground cover is prohibited except for dead or diseased trees and limited thinning
In a designated riparian zone, clearing or cutting trees and brush is prohibited — dead vegetation, fallen trees, invasives and pruning for imminent public safety are the exceptions
The riparian zone takes in the 100-year floodplain wherever it has been delineated — which is a lot of Manville
